Jammu Tawi, Jan 28: After 15 years of delays, Jammu Smart City Limited launched a two-day Tawi Boating Festival on January 28-29 at the newly created artificial lake on the Tawi River, marking the project’s revival post-2019 reorganization.
The free public event runs from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm daily, featuring trial boat rides on 3-4 meters of retained water, illuminated riverbanks, local Dogra cuisine stalls, and live bands, with SDRF teams ensuring safety.
Smart City CEO Dr Devansh Yadav said the Rs 180 crore project—expanded to 7 km from Gujjar Nagar to Bhagwati Nagar—aims for routine boating if successful, alongside future water sports, green zones, and PPP commercial spaces modeled on Sabarmati riverfront. Phase 1 (2.7 km) is complete, with drains diverted to curb pollution.
