JAMMU, Dec 27: Gharota Police and Forest Officials intercepted a vehicle carrying illegally transported Khair wood during a joint naka checking operation in the Amb area on the intervening night of December 26-27.
The team signaled a Tata Mobile bearing registration number JK02AU-7431 to stop, but the driver attempted to flee upon noticing police presence and managed to escape from the spot.
Upon inspection, the vehicle was found loaded with approximately 30-40 quintals of Khair wood logs being illegally transported for commercial purposes.
The vehicle and seized wood have been taken into police custody. A case has been registered at Police Station Gharota, and the confiscated vehicle along with the seized material has been handed over to the Forest Department for further action under relevant provisions of the Forest Act.
