Jammu, Aug 02: In a decisive operation against an inter-district vehicle theft syndicate, the Miran Sahib Police have dismantled a well-orchestrated gang engaged in stealing, dismantling, and illegally trading vehicles as scrap. The crackdown, led by Inspector Jai Paul Sharma and ASI Pintoo Kumar under the close supervision of SDPO R S Pura and SP Headquarters Jammu, has so far resulted in four arrests, with additional suspects currently evading capture.
The investigation was initiated following the registration of FIR No. 94/2025 on July 15 under Section 303(2) BNS at Police Station Miran Sahib. Prompt action, aided by CCTV surveillance and intelligence gathering, led police to a concealed tin-shed workshop in Meen Charka, Bari Brahmana, where stolen vehicles were being systematically dismantled.
Identified as the mastermind, Mohammad Younis of Smailpur Kothri had erected the shed on his own land, converting it into a hub for stripping down stolen vehicles. Among his known associates are Mohammad Hassan alias Raju of Ragura Majheen and Sukhwinder Kumar alias Billa of Bansultan, Miran Sahib—both currently on the run. Those in custody include Bikram Singh alias Bikki of Simbal Camp, Mohammad Yaqoob of Bari Khad, and Zakir Hussain from Kralpora, Handwara.
The gang’s latest heist involved the theft of a truck (registration number JK02AE-7469) from Basti Govindpur, Simbal Morh. Investigators discovered that the truck was quickly dismantled and parts loaded into a Tata Mobile bearing dual and dubious registration numbers—JK02E-8809 and JK02V-5762—raising further suspicion about tampered documentation. Verification of the chassis and engine numbers is currently underway.
The probe has also brought two additional names into focus: Mohit, a scrap dealer, and Sajad Hussain, brother of the ringleader, both found to have purchased parts from the dismantled truck. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the absconders.
Recovered truck components have been seized from the scene, with more parts expected to be retrieved as the investigation unfolds. Jammu Police continue to pursue leads in what appears to be a broader criminal network.
Law enforcement officials emphasized their ongoing commitment to rooting out organized crime and assured that efforts are underway to apprehend all remaining suspects involved in the racket.
