LEBANON JAN 6: Israel launched airstrikes on southern and eastern Lebanon on Monday, January 5, 2026, after issuing evacuation warnings to residents of four villages, marking the first such warnings issued by the Israeli military this year. The strikes targeted what Israel described as Hezbollah and Hamas military infrastructure despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement.
The Israeli military spokesperson identified targets in four villages:

Kfar Hatta and Annan in southern Lebanon, where Hamas sites were targeted

Al-Manara (Hammara) and Ain al-Tineh in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, where Hezbollah installations were struck
Dozens of families were seen fleeing Kfar Hatta after the evacuation warnings were issued, with ambulances and fire trucks placed on standby amid increased drone activity in the area.
Earlier on Monday, a drone strike on a vehicle in the southern village of Braikeh injured two individuals, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. The attacks followed a deadly Israeli strike on Sunday that targeted a vehicle approximately 10 kilometers from the border, killing two people.
Despite a US-brokered ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024 that ended over a year of intense conflict with Hezbollah, Israel has continued military operations in Lebanon. Lebanon’s government has criticized the strikes, saying they undermine efforts to prevent escalation. The Israeli military maintains that the operations target ceasefire violations by Hezbollah and Hamas, while continuing to control five strategic areas within Lebanese territory.
