NEW YORK, Feb 15: A 22-year-old Indian postgraduate student from Karnataka, Saketh Sreenivasaiah, enrolled in the Master of Science program at the University of California, Berkeley, has been found dead less than a week after going missing, the Indian Consulate in San Francisco confirmed Sunday.
Sreenivasaiah was last seen on Monday when his backpack—containing his passport and laptop—was discovered on a doorstep in Berkeley’s Park Hills neighborhood, prompting a frantic search by local police who appealed for public tips. In a somber X post, the Consulate expressed deep regret: “Local police have confirmed the recovery of the body of the missing Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah.”
The mission extended heartfelt condolences to his grieving family and assured full support, including coordination with authorities for repatriating his mortal remains to India at the earliest. Consular officers remain in direct contact to handle all formalities and services during this difficult time.
