NEW DELHI, Sep 27: India strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations, accusing Islamabad of spreading “falsehoods” and “deceit” while warning that continued terrorism will have consequences.
Exercising its Right of Reply at the UN General Assembly, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, Petal Gahlot, hit back at remarks made by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his address to the world body.
Sharif had praised US President Donald Trump for what he called “timely intervention” during the 2025 conflict between India and Pakistan and again raised the Kashmir issue.
Responding to the Pakistani leader, Gahlot described Pakistan as a regime dominated by its military and questioned its claims about democracy and human rights.
She also referred to Pakistan’s 27th Constitutional Amendment and the reported lifelong legal immunity granted to Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.
“Reiterating falsehoods year after year does not make them true,” Gahlot said, adding that Pakistan’s “terrorism, deceit and duplicity” would not benefit either Pakistan or the international community.
On Kashmir, India reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of the country. Gahlot also drew attention to Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, referring to reports of protests, violence and allegations concerning the region.
India also criticised Pakistan over its alleged support for cross-border terrorism, referring to last year’s Operation Sindoor, launched following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
“Our right to defend ourselves against terrorism will be exercised. And continued terrorism by Pakistan will have consequences,” Gahlot said.
India further criticised Pakistan over its record on religious minorities and intolerance, arguing that Islamabad’s statements at the UN did not reflect the situation on the ground.
The exchange came during the ongoing UN General Assembly session, with Kashmir and terrorism once again emerging as key points of disagreement between India and Pakistan.
