India Meteorological Department has issued a comprehensive weather warning predicting thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, heavy rainfall and heatwave conditions across multiple parts of the country over the coming days.
According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds reaching 40-60 kmph are likely over northwest India between May 11 and 14. Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are expected to witness scattered rainfall, thunderstorms and possible hailstorm activity during this period.
Southern states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to experience widespread thunderstorms and heavy rainfall over the next seven days. Very heavy rainfall is also forecast in parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala on May 14 and 15.
The weather department has also warned of heatwave conditions over West Rajasthan and Gujarat from May 9 to 15, while isolated heatwave conditions are expected in West Madhya Pradesh on May 12 and 13.
In northeast India, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh between May 11 and 15, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Meanwhile, IMD stated that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal around May 11, which could further influence weather conditions in the region.
The department advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorms, avoid open areas during lightning activity and stay updated through official weather bulletins.
