Leh, Jan 28: The Fire and Fury Corps on Wednesday concluded a regional ice hockey championship at Leh, drawing teams and spectators from across Ladakh and adding fresh momentum to winter sports in the high-altitude region.
The tournament was staged at the Gupuk Ice Rink and the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre ice rink. Eight teams from different parts of Ladakh competed over two days. League fixtures and semi-finals were played on January 27 at Gupuk, while the final took place on January 28 at the LSRC rink.
Winners, along with the best player and best goalkeeper, were felicitated by Major General Sudhanshu Sharma, SM, VSM, Chief of Staff of the Fire and Fury Corps. Military and civil dignitaries, officials from various departments, and local residents attended the closing ceremony.
The championship saw spirited participation from both male and female players. Large crowds turned up to support the teams, lending the event a festive atmosphere and reflecting the region’s strong bond with the sport.
Officials said the Army has been regularly organising ice hockey events across Ladakh and providing kits to local teams to help young players train in better conditions. The championship offered a structured platform for emerging talent and promoted discipline and teamwork among the youth.
Community members present at the venue praised the continued support extended to winter sports in Ladakh, noting that such efforts have helped sustain interest in ice hockey and encouraged wider participation at the grassroots level.
