ASSAM DEC 12 :Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that the probe into Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and his wife Elizabeth Colburn’s alleged Pakistan links will be transferred to a central agency.
The state had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) following Sarma’s accusations against the couple, which included claims of ties to Pakistan’s ISI.
The SIT submitted its report to the Chief Minister on September 10, and Sarma stated that after wrapping up the related Zubeen Garg death case—where a charge sheet has been filed—they would shift focus to Gogoi’s matter.
He promised to share key documents by month-end or early next month once the Garg case proceeds to trial.
Sarma emphasized that the case’s intricacies exceed the Assam SIT’s capacity, necessitating a central agency’s involvement for a thorough investigation.
Despite this, he asserted that the SIT’s findings already provide enough evidence to implicate the accused.
Gogoi has rejected the allegations as baseless, likening them to a “C-grade Bollywood film”that is going to flop.
