Jammu Mar 22: Traffic movement on the Mughal Road in Jammu and Kashmir has resumed after being suspended for around 10 days due to heavy snowfall and the need for snow clearance operations. Authorities said that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), along with local district administration and traffic personnel, carried out intensive de‑snowing work along the Pir Ki Gali stretch and other high‑altitude sections of the road to make it safe for vehicles.
The Mughal Road, which connects Shopian district in south Kashmir with Poonch district in the Jammu region, was temporarily shut following fresh snowfall and adverse weather conditions that triggered snowdrifts and reduced visibility. During the closure period, local residents and traders witnessed disruption in the movement of essential goods and inter‑district transport.
Once the snow‑clearance teams completed their work and viability checks were carried out, traffic was allowed in a controlled, phased manner. Officials have urged drivers to exercise caution, follow speed limits, and keep check on weather updates before venturing on the route, as the high‑altitude stretch remains prone to sudden snowfall and road‑condition changes even in late winter and early spring.
