SRINAGAR, JUNE 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday reopened the Gulmarg Gondola service to the public, nearly a month after operations were suspended due to a technical malfunction.
Officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation said the popular cable car service resumed after undergoing necessary repairs, maintenance and extensive safety checks.
Several trial runs were conducted over the past few days to ensure the system was functioning smoothly and safely, officials said, adding that tourists can now book rides through the corporation’s official portal.
The Gondola service was suspended on May 25 after a technical snag left more than 300 tourists and local guides stranded mid-air, triggering a large-scale rescue operation involving the Army, Police, NDRF and SDRF.
Following the incident, the government constituted a five-member committee on June 10 to investigate the reasons behind the malfunction. The panel was tasked with submitting its findings within 10 days.
