New Delhi, Mar 25: India ramped up commercial LPG allocation from 20% to 50% on March 21, focusing on dhabas, hotels, industrial canteens, community kitchens, and state-run subsidized outlets, Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma announced at an inter-ministerial briefing.
States were urged to prioritize 5kg cylinders for migrant laborers. Result: 26 states allocated 22,000 tonnes—covering nationwide needs via state quotas and oil company supplies. Yesterday saw ~30,000 such cylinders distributed.
The move counters supply chain pressures amid global tensions while ensuring essentials reach vulnerable groups.
