Kargil, Aug 29: The Sports Committee of Government Degree College Kargil kickstarted intramural sports events on the occasion of National Sports Day today, where Principal Disket Angmo graced the event as the Chief Guest.
In her inaugural address, Disket Angmo said the day holds special significance as it marks the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey player who brought glory to the nation and made India proud on the global stage.
She emphasized that students should make maximum efforts to replace futile screen time with productive physical activities on playgrounds.
She further stressed the importance of respecting rules, valuing fair play, encouraging peers, and celebrating every effort, while carrying this spirit forward into academics and practical life.
Kaneez Fatima, a student and enthusiastic player, highlighted the life and contribution of Major Dhyan Chand and inspired the audience with her insightful thoughts.
Dr. Mustafa Ali, College Director of Sports and Convenor of the Sports Committee, presented the event highlights along with the aims and objectives of the tournament.
Shabir Hussain (AP Commerce), member of the Sports Committee, delivered the vote of thanks, while Mohammed Tauheed (Senior Student) conducted the proceedings.
Later, intramural table tennis matches were played between different teams in both singles and doubles categories.
