JKPCC intensifies signature campaign against ‘Vote Chori’
Jammu, Oct 06: The Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Sunday ramped up its signature campaign against alleged electoral irregularities, demanding a free, fair, and transparent voting system in the country.
The campaign, part of the nationwide initiative led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi against “Vote Chori,” was reviewed and strengthened in a meeting of senior party leaders, District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents, and block-level functionaries held in Jammu. The meeting was presided over by JK Congress Working President Raman Bhalla.
Addressing the gathering, Bhalla said the signature campaign seeks to highlight large-scale irregularities in the electoral system, from voter lists to polling processes, and protect the fundamental right to vote. “The right to vote is the most precious right in a democracy, and free, fair, and transparent elections are the backbone of the democratic system,” he said. He urged all citizens and party workers to actively participate in the campaign during its final week before nationwide submission to the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
The meeting also decided to revive the statehood campaign, which had been temporarily suspended due to recent heavy rains and floods. A resolution was passed to intensify the “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq” movement across the region. Party officials emphasized maximum outreach and participation in both campaigns over the coming week.
Senior leaders in attendance included former ministers Mula Ram and Yogesh Sawhney, ex-MLAs Th. Balwan Singh and Indu Pawar, ex-MLC Ved Mahajan, as well as DCC presidents from Jammu Urban, Jammu Rural, Poonch, Reasi, Doda, and Ramban, among others. Prominent party functionaries from various frontal organizations and wings also joined the deliberations.
The JK Congress plans to submit collected signatures to the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) for onward transmission to the AICC, reinforcing the party’s commitment to safeguard electoral integrity and democratic values.
