Jammu, June 25: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday announced that the flood-damaged bridges over the Ravi River and Sehar Khad near Kalibari on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) have been restored, reopening an important connectivity link between Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
In a post on X, Gadkari said the bridges were severely damaged during last year’s flash floods, leading to major disruptions on the strategically important highway.
He said the restoration work was undertaken on priority due to the highway’s significance for passenger movement, freight transportation and regional connectivity, and was completed within the scheduled timeframe.
“The reopening of these bridges will ensure seamless connectivity and facilitate the smooth movement of passengers and freight,” Gadkari said.
The minister added that the restored bridges would improve travel arrangements for the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra by strengthening connectivity along the route.
He further said the upgraded infrastructure would boost mobility, improve logistics and support economic activities in the region.
