Leh, May 14 : The Agriculture Department on Wednesday conducted a field demonstration on Rajma cultivation through the line sowing method at Farm School, Phey Village, in an effort to encourage farmers to adopt scientific agricultural practices aimed at improving crop productivity and farm management.
The programme focused on familiarising farmers with improved cultivation techniques and the benefits of line sowing over conventional broadcasting methods commonly used in Rajma cultivation.
During the demonstration, agriculture officials explained that line sowing ensures proper plant spacing, improved aeration and efficient intercultural operations, while also reducing seed requirement and facilitating better crop management. Farmers were additionally provided technical guidance on nutrient application, irrigation scheduling and weed control practices to enhance productivity.
Tsering Dolkar and other officials highlighted that the adoption of scientific sowing techniques could contribute substantially to improving crop yield and ease of cultivation, particularly in regions where efficient resource management is essential.
Around 25 farmers participated in the programme and interacted with officials on issues related to Rajma cultivation and modern agricultural practices. Participants expressed interest in implementing the demonstrated techniques in their own fields.
The outreach programme concluded with an interaction session during which farmers discussed cultivation-related challenges and sought technical advice from departmental officials. Tool kits and stationery items were also distributed among the participants.
