GURGAON DEC 31: Police have registered a case after a 25-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and assaulted in a moving van on the Gurgaon–Faridabad road and then thrown out of the vehicle, leaving her with serious facial injuries that needed 12 stitches. Two accused have been arrested and the Maruti Suzuki Eeco van used in the crime has been seized, officials said.
According to the complaint, the woman left home around 8.30 pm on Monday after an argument with her mother, telling her sister she was visiting a friend and would return in a few hours. When she started back around midnight and could not find public transport, she accepted a lift from two men in a van, which was then allegedly driven towards the Gurgaon–Faridabad road and beyond the Hanuman temple instead of towards her house.
Police said the men allegedly took turns to rape her as the van moved through deserted, fog-covered stretches of Faridabad, and her cries for help went unheard due to sparse traffic and poor visibility. Around 3 am, she was allegedly pushed out of the moving van near Mula Hotel at Raja Chowk in SGM Nagar; despite her injuries, she managed to call her sister, who rushed her to hospital.
An FIR based on the family’s complaint has been registered at Kotwali police station and further investigation is underway, with police examining the route of the van and questioning the arrested men.
