SRINAGAR, Jul 25: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against an accused in an alleged overseas employment fraud case in which a Kashmiri youth was lured to Cambodia with the promise of a high-paying job before being forced into illegal online scam operations.
According to an official statement, the chargesheet has been filed in FIR No. 19/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Mohd Yaseen Rather, son of Nisar Ahmad Rather and a resident of Kripalpora Payeen, Pattan, before the Court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class after the completion of the investigation.
The case was registered following a complaint alleging that the accused had promised the complainant a job as a computer operator in Cambodia with a monthly salary of ₹90,000. Believing the offer to be genuine, the complainant allegedly transferred lakhs of rupees to the accused’s bank account and also spent substantial amounts on visa processing, travel and other related formalities.
However, investigators said the promised employment turned out to be fraudulent. After reaching Cambodia, the complainant was allegedly denied the assured job and instead forced to participate in illegal online scam operations, leaving him vulnerable to exploitation and financial loss.
The EOW said its investigation substantiated the allegations against the accused and sufficient evidence was gathered to file the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial proceedings.
The Crime Branch has advised the public to exercise caution while responding to overseas employment offers and to verify the authenticity of recruitment agencies and job opportunities before making any payments.
It also urged citizens to immediately report suspected employment frauds or economic offences to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir.
