Leh, Apr 12: Two students from the Department of Social Work at EJM College Leh have secured a fully funded one-year international internship in Germany, following their field-based training with a local development organisation.
Sonam Yangdol and Stanzin Youtso, part of the 2021–2024 batch, were selected after completing their mandatory block placement at LEDeG, an organisation known for its work in sustainable development and community engagement in Ladakh.
As part of the academic curriculum, social work students are required to undergo intensive field placements with recognised institutions. During their tenure at LEDeG, the two students were involved in grassroots initiatives, gaining practical exposure to community practice, environmental sustainability, and participatory development models in the region.
According to the Department, the selection for the international internship was based on their consistent performance, field engagement, and commitment demonstrated during the placement period. The programme in Germany is expected to further strengthen their academic grounding while offering exposure to global practices in social work and sustainable development.
The students recently visited the Department to acknowledge the role of faculty members and the college administration in guiding them through their academic journey. Faculty members described the achievement as a reflection of sustained mentorship and the institution’s emphasis on experiential learning.
Officials from the Department of Social Work said the accomplishment highlights the growing opportunities for students from Ladakh in international academic and professional spaces. They added that such recognitions reinforce the value of field-based education in preparing students for wider engagements beyond the region.
The college administration extended its congratulations to the students and expressed hope that their experience abroad would contribute to their professional growth and inspire future batches to pursue similar pathways.
