Kargil, Dec 02: The Executive Councillor for the Power Development Department, LAHDC Kargil, Zakir Hussain, on Tuesday instructed Absolute Project Limited to hasten ongoing power strengthening works across Kargil district amid concerns over delays and the approaching closure of Zojila Pass.
Chairing a review meeting at his office, the EC assessed the progress on shifting and reinforcing existing power lines, laying underground cabling, expanding the transmission network and replacing outdated transformers. Officials present included the Executive Engineers of the Electric Power Division Kargil and Ladakh, the Senior DGM of Power Grid, and representatives of Absolute Project Limited.
The works, funded under a government allocation of Rs 116 crore, are being executed by the private agency in various locations. However, the EC expressed displeasure over what he described as a slow pace on the ground and urged authorities to deploy additional manpower to meet deadlines.
Following the meeting, the EC, along with technical officers, inspected areas including Chulachay, Pashkum, Ali Abad, and the Government Higher Secondary School Pashkum where upgrades are underway.
Stressing the urgency before winter disrupts road connectivity, Zakir Hussain directed the agency to ensure all essential equipment and materials are transported to Kargil ahead of the Zojila Pass closure to avoid any interruption in the execution of power infrastructure improvements.
