Zanskar, Mar 25: Executive Councilor for Rural Development Department, Forest, Information, and Zanskar Development Authority, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi on Tuesday undertook an extensive visit to several government schools in Zanskar, acknowledging the role of Village Education Committees (VECs), parents, and local stakeholders in improving student enrolment across the region.
The visit comes in the backdrop of a noticeable rise in enrolment figures, attributed to coordinated efforts led by ZEPO Zanskar along with active participation from local communities.
During his tour, the Executive Councilor, accompanied by Zonal Education Officer Tsewang Dorjay, visited Government Primary School Khisharak. He engaged with parents, VEC members, teaching staff, and students to gather firsthand feedback on the functioning of the institution.
Members of the Village Education Committee welcomed the visiting delegation and highlighted several pressing requirements, including the construction of a new school building, augmentation of teaching staff, and the provision of digital infrastructure such as computers and public address systems.
Later, the Councilor visited Government Middle School Pipiting, where he interacted with teachers, School Management and Development Committee members, students, and parents. He appreciated the collective effort of the community in strengthening enrolment in the school. During the interaction, VEC representatives reiterated demands for improved infrastructure, including a new building and the deployment of subject-specific teachers.
Responding to these concerns, Er. Tashi assured that all feasible assistance would be extended through LAHDC Kargil. He lauded parents and community members for opting to send their children to government institutions within their villages, describing it as a positive step towards strengthening the public education system in remote areas.
The Executive Councilor also inspected the newly constructed building of BMS Padum, which is expected to be made operational within the next two days. He directed the Executive Engineer of the R&B Department to ensure proper cleaning of debris from the school premises and to facilitate a smooth handover of the building to the Zonal Education Office, Zanskar.
The visit underscored ongoing efforts to enhance educational infrastructure and community participation in Zanskar, with local authorities reiterating their commitment to improving access and quality of schooling in the region.
