Zanskar, Mar 26: Stressing the importance of strengthening educational infrastructure in remote regions, Executive Councillor for Rural Development, Forest, Information and Zanskar Development Authority, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi inaugurated the newly constructed building of Government Boys Middle School Padum and handed it over to the Zonal Education Officer, Zanskar.
The school building has been constructed by the Public Works (R&B) Division Zanskar at a cost of Rs 83.79 lakh, aimed at improving learning conditions for students in the region.
Following the inauguration, the Executive Councillor, accompanied by ZEO Tsewang, interacted with parents, Village Education Committee (VEC) members, staff and students to gather first-hand feedback on the functioning of the institution and the requirements at the ground level.
The VEC members welcomed the visiting dignitary and expressed appreciation for the newly developed infrastructure, stating that the facility would contribute to a better academic environment for students.
During the interaction, Er. Tashi acknowledged the efforts of parents and VEC members in promoting enrolment in government schools, particularly within their own villages. He appreciated the community’s role in supporting the local education system and ensuring wider participation.
The VEC members raised concerns regarding the availability of subject-specific teachers, underlining the need to strengthen academic resources. Responding to the concerns, the Executive Councillor assured that all possible assistance would be extended by LAHDC Kargil to address the issues and enhance the quality of education.
He also encouraged continued community involvement in strengthening government institutions and ensuring that children benefit from accessible education facilities.
Meanwhile, the Executive Councillor directed the Executive Engineer, R&B Division, to ensure the prompt removal of construction debris from the school premises, emphasising the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment for students.
The newly inaugurated building is expected to provide improved infrastructure for students in Padum and reflects ongoing efforts to upgrade educational facilities in remote parts of Zanskar.
