Kathua, Apr 11: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh arrived at Government Medical College (GMC), Kathua, on Saturday to review the institution’s healthcare delivery, academic standards and expansion plans in the presence of Principal Dr. Surinder Kumar Atri, senior faculty members and high‑ranking officials from the Central and Jammu & Kashmir Governments.
The visit is part of a broader review of public health infrastructure across the Union Territory, with a focus on strengthening tertiary care facilities, human‑resource deployment and medical education at GMC Kathua. During the visit, the Minister interacted with doctors, nursing staff and students, discussed ongoing projects and heard presentations on the college’s role as a key referral centre for the Jammu region.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, whose portfolio includes the Ministry of Earth Sciences and coordination with various scheme‑implementing departments, reiterated the Union Government’s commitment to upgrading healthcare institutions in J&K and ensuring improved access to quality medical services for people in remote and border areas.
