Directs expedite completion of Heritage Projects
Jammu: The long-pending proposal for a flyover connecting Circular Road near Jullaka Mohalla to the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex is finally gaining traction, with Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar on Monday directing the concerned departments to initiate the tendering process without delay.
Chairing a review meeting on the restoration and development works at the historic complex, Kumar said the proposed flyover would improve access to the heritage site and help decongest traffic in the adjoining old city areas. The project, once executed, is expected to provide smoother connectivity for visitors and residents alike.
Senior officials including the Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC); Executive Director, Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society; Director Archives; SSP Jammu; Chief Engineer, PW (R&B) Department; SE PWD; and representatives from NHLML and JK Cable Car Corporation Ltd attended the meeting.
During the review, the Divisional Commissioner also examined progress on other major components of the restoration plan, including the multilevel parking facility and the vertical lift from Peerkho to Mubarak Mandi. Officials were asked to ensure timely completion of ongoing works through close inter-departmental coordination.
Kumar reviewed restoration activities underway at the Darbar Hall, Dogra Art Museum, Raja Ram Singh Palace, Raja Amar Singh Palace, and the Central Courtyard, stressing strict adherence to conservation standards to preserve the original architectural character of the Dogra-era structures.
He reiterated that the government’s broader initiative seeks to revive the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex as a vibrant cultural and tourism hub, reflecting the historical and artistic richness of the Dogra dynasty. The administration, he added, aims to balance preservation with the development of modern visitor facilities to make the complex a focal point of heritage tourism in Jammu.
The Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, an enduring emblem of Dogra architecture overlooking the Tawi River, is being restored in a phased manner. Once completed, it is expected to emerge as one of the region’s premier cultural destinations, linking Jammu’s historical legacy with its urban development goals.
