JAMMU DEC 17: Against the backdrop of heightened security concerns following the recent firing incident in the Soan area of Udhampur, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police , Jammu South Kashmir (JSK) Range, Shiv Kumar on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive review of operational preparedness across sensitive pockets of Kathua district, including Billawar, Samba, Ramkot and Manwal.

Accompanied by SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma, SSP Samba Varinder Manhas, DySP Arjun Singh Chib, SP Operations Billawar Amir, SP Operations Kathua Mukund, senior CRPF officers, SDPO Billawar and the SHO Billawar, the DIG assessed ground-level readiness and reviewed security arrangements during visits to key locations, including Kamla Top in the Billawar area.

During the review, the DIG underscored the need for heightened vigilance and proactive policing to maintain peace and stability across the region. He directed all officers to remain on high alert, particularly in vulnerable and sensitive areas, and stressed that any lapse in preparedness would not be tolerated.

Highlighting the importance of inter-agency coordination, the DIG called for seamless cooperation among the police, Army, CRPF and other security agencies to effectively counter emerging challenges. He reviewed deployment patterns and ordered mobilisation of additional forces in identified hotspots to prevent any untoward incident.

Emphasising intelligence-led operations, the DIG instructed officers to strengthen intelligence gathering mechanisms and ensure timely sharing of actionable inputs to neutralise potential threats at an early stage. He also reviewed the performance of jawans deployed on the ground, interacted with them and boosted their morale, appreciating their role in maintaining security under challenging conditions.

The overall law and order situation, manpower availability and operational readiness of the police force were also reviewed. Officers were directed to maintain high visibility in their jurisdictions, intensify patrols and strengthen naka checking to reassure the public and deter anti-national elements.

SSP Kathua briefed the DIG on the prevailing security scenario in Billawar and the measures taken to maintain peace and law and order. A joint meeting was also held with Army authorities, during which the DIG reaffirmed that the Jammu and Kashmir Police would continue to work in close coordination with the armed forces to ensure peace and security in the region.
