New Delhi, October 21: BJP president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday stressed the importance of connecting the younger generation with India’s cultural nationalist roots, saying ideological continuity and a strong sense of national identity are essential in changing global circumstances.
Addressing an event marking the 75th foundation year of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor of the BJP, Nabin cautioned that attempts were being made globally to challenge democracies by creating an atmosphere of instability and anarchy.
He said the party must ensure that its growing organisational strength is accompanied by a deeper commitment to its core ideology and cultural foundations.
Nabin expressed confidence that the principles and ideals established by the Jana Sangh would continue to inspire people and help unite the country’s 140 crore citizens.
He credited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and several other leaders of the Jana Sangh and BJP for their dedication and efforts in building and expanding the organisation.
Recalling the early days of the Jana Sangh, founded on October 21, 1951, Nabin said the organisation had faced considerable challenges, including a lack of funds, office space and transportation facilities. Despite these difficulties, its leaders remained determined to take their ideology to every citizen.
He said the dedication and determination displayed by the party’s founding leaders should serve as an example for the present generation of workers.
Nabin observed that the younger generation must demonstrate a similar commitment to realise the vision of making India a Vishwaguru — a leading force in global affairs.
He also noted that the BJP’s ideology and development initiatives had reached communities across the country, creating favourable conditions for further organisational growth. He urged party workers to build on these achievements and strengthen the organisation.
Highlighting the influence of Jana Sangh ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya, Nabin said his philosophy of Antyodaya, which emphasises the welfare of the last person in society, had shaped the government’s pro-poor initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The BJP president also paid tribute to Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, urging party workers to draw inspiration from his ideals, simplicity and dedication.
Concluding his address, Nabin called upon party workers to uphold the principles and commitment of their predecessors and pledged to advance the BJP in accordance with their vision and aspirations.
