Leh, Jan 31: The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Leh has launched a Winter Training Programme on English teaching skills and laboratory integration for Class VIII teachers, in line with the CBSE Poorvi textbooks.
The programme, which began on January 27, has brought together 60 teachers from six educational zones, including Nyoma, Durbuk and Nubra. The participants have been divided into two batches of 30 teachers each.
The training is being conducted with the active involvement of DIET faculty and places special focus on the role of RTT-certified indigenous trainers who are facilitating the sessions. The trainers — Sir Stanzin Odzer, Sir Sonam Palden and Sir Tundup Namgyal — have completed more than three years of professional preparation under the RTT–TTT Programme, an initiative of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh.
The RTT–TTT Programme is implemented by Golden Mile Learning under the leadership of Dr. Neepa Oza, Programme Director. For the ongoing winter training, Golden Mile Learning is providing subject expertise, academic leadership and full implementation support to DIET Leh.
The inaugural session was addressed by Mirza Mehdi, Principal, DIET Leh, who welcomed the participating teachers, subject experts, officials from Golden Mile Learning and the indigenous trainers. He also appreciated Golden Mile Learning for its continued academic support and field-level execution of teacher development initiatives in the district.
The winter programme also marks the formal start of the professional facilitation journey of the RTT-certified indigenous trainers. The trainers were selected from a pool of nearly 500 teachers drawn from all educational zones of the district, reflecting a growing emphasis on building local academic leadership within the school education system.
On the first day, DIET conducted sessions on Child Safety and CCDRM by Sir Dorjay Angchok, Nodal Training Officer (Leadership), DIET Leh. Sessions on Communication Styles were handled by Sir Irfan Ul Aslam, while Lab Integration was covered by Sir Tsering Tundup.
From the second day onwards, the academic facilitation has been taken up by Golden Mile Learning. The sessions are centred on English tenses, classroom use of the CBSE Poorvi textbooks and lab-based teaching practices designed for middle school classrooms.
According to the organisers, the training programme seeks to improve classroom delivery, encourage structured use of laboratories in English teaching and develop a sustainable group of locally trained and professionally certified teacher trainers to support long-term academic growth across schools in Leh district.
