New Delhi: In the wake of a fatal road accident that claimed the life of 22-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra, his grieving mother, Inna Makan, has demanded that the underage driver responsible be tried as an adult while pushing for stricter charges against the accused’s father. The minor’s father, facing an FIR, expressed regret to reporters, claiming he was out of Delhi on the day of the crash.
Inna, a single mother from Dwarka, plans to challenge the FIR in court and seek enhanced sections, awaiting her son’s postmortem report before proceeding. She described the eerie silence in their home, cherishing handmade greeting cards from Sahil—one welcoming her from the hospital, another saying “sorry mamma” after a spat. Sahil, set to pursue a master’s in Manchester this September, funded his own motorcycle through part-time insurance sales and a cousin’s business, often using it to drop her at work.
Friends recall Sahil as “happy-go-lucky,” hooked on motivational videos with ambitions symbolized by his laptop wallpaper—a sports car and mansion. The incident mirrors a 2016 Civil Lines crash where a 17-year-old in a Mercedes killed pedestrian Siddharth Sharma, reigniting debates on parental accountability for minors driving luxury vehicles.
The teen driver’s father, bound down by police under an FIR, apologised publicly, stating he was “sorry” and “regretful” but absent from the city during the tragedy.
