New Delhi, March 24: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced a series of flagship schemes, including the free distribution of cycles to 1.30 lakh Class IX girl students in government schools, as part of the Delhi Budget for 2026‑27. The move, estimated to cost around ₹90 crore, is aimed at improving school attendance and mobility among adolescent girls.
Speaking after the budget presentation, the CM said the education sector will receive a total outlay of ₹19,148 crore, the highest ever in recent years, to strengthen infrastructure, digital learning, and teacher support. A new integrated education city is also being planned in Narela to act as a hub for schools, research, and innovation.
CM Gupta further highlighted the government’s focus on fostering a startup‑driven ecosystem, with a revamped startup and incubation policy, plus measures to nurture an innovative culture in the capital. The government also announced the creation of new mentorship and incubation platforms in collaboration with universities and industry partners.
For women‑centric welfare, the Delhi government will allocate ₹5,110 crore to provide a monthly cash benefit of ₹2,500 to eligible women beneficiaries under its flagship scheme. The government also earmarked ₹227 crore for welfare programmes targeting Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes under the 2026‑27 budget, covering scholarships, skill development, and social‑security initiatives.
