Kargil, Sept 17: A focused awareness initiative on child protection laws and support services brought together students, teachers, and community members at the Government Higher Secondary School, Bimbhat, Drass. Organized by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Kargil, in collaboration with the school, the program highlighted the critical need to safeguard children from abuse, exploitation, and early marriage, while promoting mental health support and timely reporting mechanisms.
Resource persons from the District Child Protection Unit, Juvenile Justice Board, and Child Welfare Committee provided detailed sessions covering the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act 2015, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012, the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986, and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006. The discussions also included Mission Vatsalya Schemes and Sponsorship, adoption procedures under Adoption Regulations 2022, and the use of child helplines 1098/112 alongside Tele-Manas mental health support services (14416/18008914416).
The awareness drive drew participation from students and staff of Government Higher Secondary School, Bimbhat; Government Higher School, Bimbhat; Himabass Public School, Bimbhat; and Government Higher School, Chowkiyal, Drass. The attendees engaged actively in interactive sessions aimed at fostering understanding of child rights and protection mechanisms. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and recognition of the active involvement of all participants, emphasizing collective efforts to strengthen child safety and well-being across the district.
