Leh, Apr 26 : A vibrant Cultural-cum-Sports Day was held at PM Shri Middle School Khardoon in Chiktan on Saturday, with students showcasing their talents through a wide range of cultural performances and sporting activities aimed at promoting holistic development in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The programme brought together students, educators, and community members, highlighting the importance of integrating co-curricular activities with academic learning to nurture well-rounded individuals.

Councillor Chiktan, Kacho Liyaqat Ali Khan, who attended as the Chief Guest, emphasised the importance of cultural awareness among students and encouraged them to draw inspiration from the performances presented during the event. He appreciated the efforts of the school management in organising the programme and assured that infrastructure-related concerns, including building improvements, would be addressed within a stipulated timeframe.

Zonal Education Officer, Ghulam Ali, the Guest of Honour, highlighted the role of co-curricular activities in complementing formal education. He noted that such initiatives help enhance creativity, confidence, and interpersonal skills among students.

The Principal of Higher Secondary School Chiktan also addressed the gathering, appreciating the school’s initiative in promoting a balanced approach to education.

A cultural exhibition formed a major attraction of the event, displaying traditional artefacts of Ladakh and offering insights into the region’s rich heritage. The exhibition drew considerable interest and provided an engaging learning experience for students and visitors alike.

During the programme, Village Education Committee member Haji Afzal Beigh submitted a memorandum to the Chief Guest and other dignitaries, outlining local educational concerns and developmental needs.

Headmaster Yousuf Ahmad briefed the audience on the objectives of the event, stating that such programmes provide students with practical exposure to cultural traditions while fostering essential life skills. He also expressed gratitude to guests, staff, and community members for their support.

The event witnessed participation from teaching staff, escort teachers, resource persons from the 17000 Feet Foundation, committee members, parents, and students from various schools, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere.

Students actively participated in traditional performances, exhibitions, and recreational games, displaying enthusiasm, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the day. The activities also provided opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, and resilience.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by teacher Mohd Hussain, who acknowledged the contributions of all those involved in making the event a success.

The event ended on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of balancing academic pursuits with extracurricular activities to support the overall development of students.
