Leh, May 12 : Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra on Monday chaired a review meeting to assess preparations for the International Day of Yoga 2026 celebrations, with the administration planning a week-long series of yoga events across Ladakh culminating in the main function at the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), Leh, on June 21.
The meeting focused on coordination among departments, infrastructure readiness and arrangements for large-scale participation expected during the celebrations. Officials discussed plans for yoga sessions across various parts of Ladakh, including remote areas such as Nubra and Changthang, while Leh will remain the central venue for the main programme.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed the Public Works Department to undertake necessary repair and maintenance works at the MIMC venue, including levelling and improvement of infrastructure to ensure smooth movement and convenience for participants.
The administration is also planning high-altitude yoga sessions and associated outreach activities in the days leading up to June 21. Officials were instructed to finalise venues, assess the expected number of participants and prepare a comprehensive schedule for the week-long programme.
Bhikkhu Sanghasena informed the meeting that the MIMC venue has the capacity to accommodate nearly 7,000 to 10,000 participants and assured that adequate arrangements would be made for public convenience.
Highlighting the national importance of the event, Ashish Kundra directed the Deputy Commissioner Leh to submit a detailed proposal to the Lieutenant Governor after finalising the programme schedule and logistical arrangements.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from various departments, including PWD, PHE, Youth Services and Sports, Health and district administration officials.
