Jammu, Dec 30: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu recorded its most productive year in 2025, disposing of an unprecedented number of economic offence cases and complaints while ensuring recovery of crores of rupees for affected victims across the Jammu region.
Official figures reveal that the Wing registered 67 fresh FIRs during the year, the highest annual intake in more than two decades. At the same time, a large number of pending and complex cases were taken to logical conclusion through sustained investigation and timely filing of charge-sheets before courts of law. The total amount involved in the cases charge-sheeted during 2025 is estimated at around Rs 20 crore.
As part of enforcement action, 22 accused persons involved in different FIRs were arrested. Special teams of EOW Jammu were also dispatched within the Union Territory and to other states to conduct searches and secure arrests, reflecting the inter-state nature of several economic crime networks.
Investigations during the year covered a wide spectrum of offences, including cheating, forgery, land frauds, impersonation, visa scams, job rackets, misappropriation of government funds and abuse of official position by public servants. Particular focus was laid on illegal job consultancies operating in the Jammu zone, many of which were found to be targeting unemployed youth through false promises.
Alongside criminal investigations, the Wing continued to function as a major platform for public grievance redressal. A total of 1,186 complaints were examined and resolved after detailed factual and legal scrutiny, offering relief to citizens who had approached the agency seeking intervention.
To strengthen evidentiary support, Photo Sections established by EOW Jammu across various districts played an active role throughout the year. These units provided photographic documentation for 3,599 crime scenes, assisting police stations across Jammu zone in preserving visual evidence crucial for prosecution.
Officials said that under the supervision of Crime Headquarters, J&K, the Wing also undertook awareness initiatives on newly enacted criminal laws, while maintaining close coordination with government departments, banks, financial institutions and private entities. Timely exchange of information, they noted, helped expedite investigations and case disposal.
Reiterating its commitment to protecting public trust, EOW Jammu has urged citizens to remain alert against financial frauds and to report economic offences without delay, stressing that early reporting helps prevent wider losses and strengthens legal action.
