Crack down on Tanker Water Supply, JMC Deploys Officers for Citywide Monitoring

Jammu, Sept 02: In a bid to tighten control over water distribution, the Jammu Municipal Corporation has ordered round-the-clock monitoring of tanker supply across the city, directing its enforcement and sanitary staff to ensure that households and communities receive water strictly as per allocations made by the Public Health Engineering Department.

In an order issued from the Town Hall, Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav assigned Enforcement Officers and Inspectors to supervise the lifting of water from borewells and its distribution through tankers. These officials have also been tasked to coordinate with the grievance helpdesk for redressal of complaints and to liaise with sanitary inspectors regarding deployment across wards. The sanitary inspectors, in turn, have been instructed to verify through their supervisors that tankers deliver water at designated points and to households listed on slips issued by the PHE.

According to the order, the Corporation has mapped multiple borewells across Greater Kailash, Sainik Colony, Channi Rama, Rajinder Nagar, Udheywala, Barnai, Thather, Gurha Brahmana and Company Bagh, assigning inspectors and supervisors to each location. Officers such as Rahul Jamwal, Ram Khajuria, Varun Kesar, and several others have been deputed to monitor operations in wards ranging from Gandhi Nagar and Channi to areas of Jammu North and outskirts. Sanitary inspectors including Subash Chander, Vivek Sood, Raj Kumar Sharma, and Sunny Khokhar will oversee the distribution in their respective zones with teams of supervisors on the ground.

While the move comes against the backdrop of rising public complaints over uneven supply, officials said the aim is to streamline delivery and prevent diversion of tankers. Citizens can continue to approach the helpdesk for immediate intervention in case of delays or lapses.

Residents, particularly in water-scarce colonies on the city’s periphery, have long relied on tanker services during peak summer months. By deputing specific officers with contact numbers made available for each ward, the Corporation has sought to strengthen accountability in the system.

The JMC has emphasized that the new arrangements will remain under strict watch and any lapses will invite departmental action. For now, officials expect the coordinated mechanism to improve distribution and reduce grievances in the coming weeks.
