DODA/REASI, JUNE 25 : Five persons, including a couple and their teenage daughter, were killed while six others sustained injuries in two separate road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda and Reasi districts on Wednesday.
In Doda district, three members of a family lost their lives after the car they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge near Khellani. The victims were identified as Jai Singh (46), his wife Babli Devi (44), and their daughter Sonakshi (13), residents of Nagrota, Jammu. Two other family members, Vishali Devi (23) and Aryan (13), were injured and are undergoing treatment at Government Medical College (GMC) Doda.
According to officials, the family was returning home after paying obeisance at the Machail Mata shrine in Kishtwar district when the accident occurred. Locals and police personnel immediately launched a rescue operation and shifted the victims to hospital.
In a separate incident in Chiral Shajroo area of Reasi district, two women were killed and four others injured when a Maruti Suzuki Brezza met with an accident around 1:30 pm.
The deceased were identified as Razia Begum (49), wife of Liyaqat Hussain, and Tahira Parveen (32), wife of Ashiq Hussain, both residents of Chiral village.
The injured include Ashiq Hussain (34), Ehtisham (4), Aira Choudhary (6), and Aiman Choudhary (11). Following the accident, locals rushed to the spot and assisted in rescue efforts. The injured were initially taken to Mahore Hospital and later referred to District Hospital Reasi for specialized treatment.
Police have taken cognisance of both accidents and initiated further investigation.
