Kargil, Jul 04: In an appeal highlighting the urgent needs of the Sankoo region, three local councillors have submitted a formal memorandum to the Director General of Police (DGP), UT Ladakh, calling for immediate action on key public safety and employment concerns.
The memorandum, signed by Syed Ahamad Razvi (Councilor Sankoo), Ghulam Haider (Councilor Lankerchey), and Sheikh Mohd Anasri (Councilor Barsoo), outlines three major demands aimed at enhancing law and order, emergency preparedness, and youth employment in Sankoo and its adjoining areas.
The councillors stressed that the current police post in Sankoo is inadequate given the area’s large population and strategic significance. They requested its immediate upgradation into a fully equipped Police Thana with sufficient staff and infrastructure to ensure improved crime control, law enforcement, and public safety.
Currently, Sankoo is served by only a single fire vehicle, which the memorandum terms “grossly insufficient” for the densely populated region. The councillors urged the administration to set up a dedicated Fire and Emergency Station with proper manpower and equipment to respond effectively to fire hazards and disaster incidents.
Citing the lack of police recruitment in recent years, the councillors highlighted the twin issues of staff shortages and rising unemployment. They requested that new recruitment drives be launched urgently to not only bolster the police force but also provide job opportunities to youth eager to serve in the uniformed services.
The memorandum reflects a growing concern among local representatives regarding infrastructure gaps in interior regions of Ladakh.
The councillors expressed hope that their “genuine demands” would receive prompt and positive consideration, given their direct impact on the security and welfare of the people in Sankoo and surrounding areas.
