New Delhi, Dec 7 : The Congress party on Sunday called for a thorough investigation and strict accountability following the devastating fire at a Goa nightclub that claimed 25 lives, with Rahul Gandhi labeling it a “criminal failure of safety and governance.”
The tragic blaze erupted early Sunday at Birch by Romeo Lane, a popular nightclub in Arpora village, North Goa, killing at least 25 people—including four tourists and 14 staff members—while injuring six others.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, describing the incident as an “avoidable tragic” and “irreparable loss.” He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and stressed the need for a comprehensive probe, stringent accountability, and immediate enforcement of fire safety norms to prevent future tragedies. Kharge also urged Congress workers in the coastal region to provide all possible support to the affected families during this time of grief.
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, expressed profound pain over the Arpora fire, offering heartfelt condolences to the families and recovery wishes to the injured. He asserted that the incident was not merely an accident but a result of criminal negligence in safety and governance, demanding a transparent investigation to assign responsibility and avert such preventable disasters.
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal echoed these sentiments, calling the Arpora nightclub fire shocking and extending sympathies to the victims’ families. He attributed the tragedy to authorities’ failure in enforcing fire safety norms and pressed for an impartial probe to identify culprits, ensure accountability, and guarantee no repetition.
