Jammu, Aug 05: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is set to lead anti-terror operations in the Jammu region, focusing efforts on the hinterland along the International Border. More than 25 companies are being deployed across Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur to strengthen the ongoing counter-terror campaign.
In a major operational shift, two units of the elite CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) will be stationed in Kathua and Udhampur. This marks the first large-scale deployment of these specialized commandos in Jammu. Known for their expertise in tackling insurgencies in difficult terrain, CoBRA personnel are well-equipped to manage the increasing security threats that have emerged in these districts over the past two years.
The move comes amid growing collaboration between the CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Special Forces of the Indian Army. This joint effort aims to revive counter-insurgency tactics used in earlier decades, with renewed focus on securing high-altitude zones to preempt militant activity.
This redeployment reflects a strategic realignment aimed at disrupting militant networks and restoring stability in sensitive areas. With CoBRA units bringing their combat-tested capabilities to the region, the security forces are expected to take a more aggressive approach to curbing cross-border threats and maintaining operational dominance.
Officials state that the combined forces will sustain pressure on terror outfits through coordinated intelligence-sharing and rapid action, ensuring a continuous presence in vulnerable sectors. The CRPF’s expanded role signals a tactical push to adapt its counter-terror strategy in response to the evolving security landscape in Jammu.
