Guwahati, Jun 2: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called on Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi on Tuesday and discussed measures to boost farmers’ welfare and growth.
The Union minister and Sarma also discussed ways to modernise farming and the progress of Assam’s ‘Lakhpati Baideu’ (Didi) scheme.
”Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @ChouhanShivraj ji has a rich administrative expertise spanning decades and meeting him is always an enriching experience,” Sarma said in a post on X.
The chief minister said they discussed avenues to boost farmers’ welfare and growth and implement all farmer-friendly policies of the double-engine government at the grassroots so that its benefits percolate to every farmer of Assam.
Discussions were also held on ways to modernise farming and make the process more rewarding with the deployment of robust infrastructure, such as mechanised farming, cold storage facilities, better market linkages, use of the agriculture infrastructure fund, and supply chain facilities.
”Progress of Assam’s Lakhpati Didi scheme, under which we have empowered nearly 40 lakh women to start and expand their business initiatives, which will have a tremendous trickle-down effect on the economy, especially our rural economy, was also discussed”, Sarma added.
