Clinical chases power Invaders, ABC and Stob Shoogs to convincing wins

Leh, Apr 4: Chasing teams stamped their authority in emphatic fashion as all three league fixtures of the Tokdan Rinpoche Tournament 2.0 at NDS Ground swung decisively in favour of sides batting second, underlining a clear pattern on a day dominated by calculated pursuits, brisk strokeplay and disciplined middle-overs bowling.

Aryan Invaders, Apricot Blossom Club (ABC) and Stob Shoogs all registered convincing victories while chasing, each displaying composure under pressure and a sharp reading of conditions that appeared increasingly favourable for run chases as the day progressed.

Aryan Invaders set the tone early, overhauling Stakchik Brothers’ 127 with ease, sealing a five-wicket win in just 14.1 overs. The chase was characterised by aggressive intent and clean striking, with Tashi Dawa’s 29 off 12 balls providing the decisive surge.

Earlier, Stakchik Brothers never quite found fluency despite brief contributions across the order. Tashi Stanzin’s 23 and Tseyring’s 26 lacked the support required to push the total beyond a modest mark. The innings was kept in check by Konchok Namgyal, whose three-wicket spell ensured regular breakthroughs and denied any late acceleration.

The second fixture delivered a more competitive contest but followed a similar script, with Apricot Blossom Club edging past Tharpaling Club in a well-paced chase of 173. The match went down to the final over, with ABC reaching the target at 19.4 overs, finishing five wickets in hand.

Tharpaling Club had earlier posted a challenging 172 for 7, built around fluent knocks from Tsefel and Thinly Gumat, both scoring 45. However, the innings lost momentum in the latter stages, largely due to Nima Lotus KT’s incisive spell of four wickets, which checked the scoring rate and exposed the middle order.

ABC’s response was anchored in stability rather than haste. Sonam Gurmat’s attacking 39 set the platform, while Tsewang Namgail’s unbeaten 39 ensured continuity through the closing overs. Despite intermittent setbacks, the batting unit maintained control of the chase, rotating strike effectively and capitalising on scoring opportunities.

The final match of the day saw Stob Shoogs produce the most commanding performance, brushing aside Sunday Club with a six-wicket victory in a chase completed with more than four overs remaining.

Sunday Club’s 151 for 8 was built largely around Jigmat Gyalson’s authoritative 66, but the lack of partnerships meant the innings never fully gathered momentum.

In contrast, Stob Shoogs approached the chase with clarity and aggression. Shujat (03) led from the front with a fluent 47, while Shahbaaz’s unbeaten 43 ensured a smooth finish. The side maintained a strong run rate throughout, rarely allowing the required rate to escalate.

Across the three encounters, the trend was unmistakable. Teams chasing not only handled pressure better but also adapted swiftly to the surface, pacing their innings with precision. Bowlers, on the other hand, struggled to defend totals once early breakthroughs proved elusive.

As the league stage unfolds, the conditions at NDS Ground appear to be tilting the balance towards chasing sides, placing greater emphasis on bowling discipline and fielding sharpness for teams opting to bat first.
