New Delhi, Jul 23: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on measures to tackle examination paper leaks was inadequate, asserting that the issue of accountability remained unaddressed. The party reiterated its demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi announced on X that fast-track courts would be set up to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks, stating that “nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth.”
Responding to the announcement, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke shared a post featuring Dharmendra Pradhan with the caption, “Hi, my name is nothing,” while the party posted, “Dharmendra Pradhan Must Resign.”
CJP national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka welcomed the Prime Minister’s response but said it came after nearly six weeks of protests and failed to address the root cause of repeated paper leaks.
“It is good that the Prime Minister has finally taken notice after one-and-a-half months of protests. But punishing people after a paper leak occurs does not solve the problem. The real question is why paper leaks keep happening and who is responsible,” Ranka said.
He argued that the government’s measures were reactive rather than preventive, alleging that repeated leaks reflected a lack of accountability and competence within the system.
“We will not leave Jantar Mantar until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns,” Ranka said, adding that public anger was increasingly being directed at Prime Minister Modi for not addressing the protesters’ concerns.
According to Ranka, the movement has expanded beyond seeking the education minister’s resignation, with demonstrators now questioning the Centre’s overall handling of the issue.
The CJP-led agitation began on June 20, demanding accountability for alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, reforms in the education system, and the resignation of the Union Education Minister.
Meanwhile, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who joined the protest on June 28 and has been on an indefinite hunger strike, has offered to end his fast if the Centre assures that no punitive action or FIRs will be initiated against peaceful protesters who participated in the movement.
