Leh, Jan 30: Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra on Thursday led a comprehensive review of flagship development and welfare schemes in the Union Territory of Ladakh, stressing the need for focused execution and timely delivery of services to eligible beneficiaries.

Chairing the review meeting, the Chief Secretary assessed the performance of key sectoral programmes spanning education, skill development, health, housing, water supply, power distribution, and livelihood support. Departments presented updates on ongoing initiatives, outlining progress achieved as well as operational challenges affecting implementation on the ground.

A detailed assessment was undertaken of progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission and the housing programme for rural and urban beneficiaries. Departments flagged concerns related to last-mile delivery, logistical constraints, and delays in project execution. Emphasising accountability, the Chief Secretary directed officials to address identified bottlenecks without delay and ensure that services reach all eligible households within prescribed timelines.

The meeting also reviewed education and skill development initiatives, including enrolment trends, training coverage, assessment procedures, and certification status. Progress of Industrial Training Institute upgradation works under the national infrastructure support programme was discussed, with a focus on Expressions of Interest, execution schedules, and coordination among implementing agencies.

Health sector interventions came up for review, covering implementation modalities under the national health insurance programme, pending matters under the National Health Mission, nutrition indicators, and the status of enhanced early childhood care centres. Power sector reforms under the national distribution scheme were also examined, with updates shared on ongoing works and field-level challenges.

In addition, the Chief Secretary reviewed outreach and implementation aspects of schemes supporting traditional artisans and craftspeople, along with the rooftop solar power programme aimed at expanding household electricity access.

Calling for strengthened inter-departmental coordination, the Chief Secretary underscored the importance of regular monitoring and swift resolution of implementation issues to improve service delivery and ensure intended outcomes for the people of Ladakh.
