Sankoo, Sept 18: Doctors at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Sankoo in Kargil district scripted a medical achievement today by successfully performing two major surgeries on the same day, highlighting the facility’s growing role in rural healthcare delivery.
The Department of Surgery completed an open mesh hernioplasty on a patient who is now reported to be stable under post-operative care. Leading the procedure was Consultant Surgeon Dr. Raziya Banoo, assisted by Dr. Ishaq Nabi, Consultant in General and Laparoscopic Surgery from Para Health Srinagar, along with Anaesthetist Dr. Asif Hussain from District Hospital Kargil.
Simultaneously, the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics carried out an elective Lower Segment Caesarean Section, ensuring safe childbirth and attentive maternal care. The operation was headed by Gynaecologist and Obstetrician Dr. Nasreen Fatima, with anaesthesia again administered by Dr. Hussain. Medical staff also provided focused neonatal care, safeguarding both mother and child.
The dual operations were conducted using Total Extra-Peritoneal (TEPP) analgesia, a method applied under the supervision of Dr. Hussain and his team, allowing seamless coordination and smooth outcomes in both cases.
This accomplishment underscores the readiness of CHC Sankoo to extend advanced surgical services beyond primary care, a development that brings new hope to residents of the Sankoo-Suru valley. Health officials noted that such procedures, once limited to urban hospitals, are now becoming accessible in rural Ladakh due to sustained efforts by the UT administration.
By delivering complex surgeries with precision and care, CHC Sankoo has demonstrated that quality secondary healthcare is no longer out of reach for remote communities in the region.
