Kargil, Feb 07: Community Health Centre (CHC) Sankoo in Kargil has started conducting routine elective Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS) surgeries, marking a new phase in maternal and gynaecological care at the block level in the region.
According to official information, the facility has begun offering the procedure as part of its regular services following the joining of Dr Rubia Banoo, Consultant Gynaecologist. Since her posting, three elective LSCS surgeries have been carried out successfully at the health centre.
The procedures were performed by Dr Rubia Banoo, with anaesthesia support provided by Dr Amina Khatoon, Anaesthetist, and Dr Shabir Hussain Bhat, along with the operation theatre team.
Hospital authorities said that all surgeries were conducted without complications, ensuring the safety of both mothers and newborns.
The introduction of routine LSCS services at the block level has brought direct relief to women from remote and far-flung villages of Sankoo and adjoining areas, who earlier had to travel long distances to district hospitals for caesarean deliveries.
In addition to surgical care, regular Gynaecology Out-Patient Department services have also become fully functional at CHC Sankoo. The centre is now providing a range of services, including antenatal care, postnatal care, family planning counselling and treatment of common gynaecological conditions.
Health officials said the expansion of services at the community health centre reflects the continuing efforts to strengthen public healthcare delivery in peripheral institutions after Ladakh became a Union Territory, with a focus on improving infrastructure, availability of specialists and access to essential medical services for the local population.
