Leh, May 14 : A delegation from Changthang led by Tashi Gyaltsan Khachu and Tashi Gyalson called on Vinai Kumar Saxena and raised a range of developmental and administrative issues concerning the newly notified Changthang district, with particular emphasis on the strategic and tourism significance of the Durbuk Sub-Division.
The delegation, which included the District President, former Councillor and former nominated councillors from Changthang, met the Lieutenant Governor on May 10 and discussed issues related to governance, infrastructure and regional development following the recent notification of new districts in Ladakh.
At the outset, the delegation expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for the formal Gazette notification of Changthang as a district, stating that the move would strengthen administrative accessibility and improve governance mechanisms in remote and frontier areas of the region.
During the interaction, the delegation highlighted concerns related to the Durbuk Sub-Division and stressed the need for focused developmental intervention in view of its strategic location and growing tourism potential. The representatives underlined that improved infrastructure, administrative support and enhanced public services were essential for the area’s long-term development.
The delegation also urged Vinai Kumar Saxena to undertake a visit to Durbuk to assess local conditions firsthand and gain a direct understanding of the developmental requirements and public concerns of the region.
The meeting assumes significance amid ongoing administrative restructuring in Ladakh following the creation of new districts, with public representatives from remote areas seeking greater institutional presence and infrastructure support to address local governance challenges.
