Leh, Aug 16: Leh witnessed a vibrant display of patriotism on Thursday as the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) celebrated the nation’s 79th Independence Day at its Secretariat. The occasion was marked by the unfurling of the Tricolour by Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) Adv. Tashi Gyalson, followed by the National Anthem echoing across the gathering.
Extending greetings to the people of India, the Ladakh region, the armed and paramilitary forces, and fellow citizens, CEC Gyalson reflected on the legacy of the freedom struggle. “The celebration of this day serves as a constant reminder of the immense sacrifices and struggles that paved the way for the nation’s freedom,” he said, urging people never to lose sight of the values that underpin independence.
He called upon the gathering to strengthen unity and contribute in every possible way to Ladakh’s growth and the nation’s progress. “The nation must always come first. It is the responsibility of each one of us to contribute, in our respective capacities, towards the unity, progress, and prosperity of both Ladakh and the country as a whole,” Gyalson remarked.
The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as officials and representatives joined in the commemoration. Among those present were Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk, Executive Councillors Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, Ghulam Mehdi, and Stanzin Chosphel, along with DC and CEO of LAHDC Leh, Romil Singh Donk. Councillors, staff, and dignitaries also attended, lending weight to the occasion.
As the Tricolour fluttered against the backdrop of the Himalayas, the ceremony reinforced a sense of belonging and duty. For many, the event was not only a remembrance of past struggles but also a reaffirmation of commitment to the future of Ladakh within the fabric of the nation.
