Kargil, May 16 : In a move aimed at strengthening institutional banking access in remote areas of Kargil, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon on Friday held a meeting with a delegation from ICICI Bank to discuss measures for expanding banking outreach, enhancing financial inclusion and promoting youth engagement through skill development initiatives.
The delegation was led by Zuhaib Vaid and included senior officials from the bank’s institutional banking division and Kargil branch.
During the meeting, discussions centred on improving the efficiency and accessibility of banking services in rural and far-flung areas of the district, where geographical constraints continue to limit access to formal financial institutions. The deliberations also focused on strengthening institutional banking facilities for local residents and broadening the reach of financial services in underserved regions.
Vaid informed the CEC that the bank has been conducting educational and awareness programmes for students in Kargil, particularly aimed at guiding aspirants preparing for banking-related competitive examinations and informing youth about career opportunities in the banking sector.
The ICICI Bank representatives also highlighted ongoing skill development and capacity-building initiatives intended to improve employability and generate local employment opportunities among the youth.
Dr Akhoon appreciated the bank’s outreach efforts and observed that such initiatives assume greater importance in a geographically challenging region like Kargil, where institutional support remains critical for socio-economic advancement.
The CEC also urged the bank to expand its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in sectors such as education, healthcare, women empowerment and community welfare. He stressed the need for sustained institutional participation in addressing developmental challenges and improving access to essential services in remote areas of the district.
