New Delhi, May 28: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday defended its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, stating that it is a “secure and robust IT platform” with no reported compromise or vulnerability in the evaluation process.
CBSE said the platform has undergone certified security audits and is backed by a strong digital infrastructure with multiple layers of quality checks to ensure safe scanning and processing of answer sheets.
Addressing concerns raised on social media, the Board assured students that answer scripts are secure and processed through strict quality-control mechanisms.
The clarification comes amid controversy over the awarding of a contract for digital evaluation of Class 12 board exam answer sheets for 2026 to a private firm, along with allegations questioning the integrity of the OSM system.
CBSE had earlier dismissed claims regarding the contract awarded to Coempt Edutech, calling them misleading and not based on facts. It said the selection process followed due procedure under the General Financial Rules.
The issue gained political attention after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demanded an independent judicial probe and an SIT investigation, alleging irregularities in the awarding of the contract and raising concerns over the firm’s past record.
Several Class 12 students have also reported discrepancies between scanned copies of their answer sheets and their handwriting, fuelling doubts about the system.
