Kargil, Oct 10: A new milestone in the district’s agricultural development was marked today with the inauguration of the ZKL Packaging and Marketing Plant at Kurbathang, Kargil. The facility, launched under the Special Development Package (SDP), aims to strengthen post-harvest infrastructure, enhance value addition, and provide marketing support to local farmers.
The Chief Agriculture Officer, Kargil, who presided over the opening ceremony, underscored the plant’s role in promoting the district’s staple crops, including barley and buckwheat, along with their value-added products. He highlighted that modern packaging and quality assurance would increase the marketability of Kargil’s agricultural produce at both regional and national levels.
Equipped with advanced machinery for cleaning, sorting, and packaging, the plant is designed to reduce post-harvest losses and create new avenues for farmer income. Officials expect the facility to play a pivotal role in branding and marketing Ladakh’s unique agricultural products, thereby boosting the district’s overall agri-economy.
The inauguration reflects a broader push to modernize the agricultural supply chain in Kargil, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and promoting sustainable development in the region.
