Border Villages GoI’s top priority; Praises Army’s grit in guarding nation at Zero Line

Thang, Sept 11: In a powerful display of national resolve, Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Thursday pledged unwavering support from the Government of India for the all-round growth and upliftment of remote border hamlets, hailing them as the unbreakable backbone of the country’s resilience and honour.

Venturing to Thang, India’s northernmost outpost perched defiantly along the Line of Control, Gupta reached the very Zero Line, where top Army brass updated him on the on-ground security landscape, troop readiness, and the indispensable vigilance of the military in shielding the nation’s edges.

With deep admiration, the Lt Governor saluted the Indian Army’s tireless sentinels, who brave the world’s harshest landscapes with legendary valor, unyielding order, and selfless zeal to protect every citizen.

“Their resolve,” he declared, “ignites a fierce sense of national glory in us all.”

Notably, Thang is a remote border village in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh. It is strategically located, with the Shyok River flowing nearby, and is under the watch of the Indian Army due to its sensitive position.

The LG acknowledged Army’s unmatched courage, discipline, and dedication in ensuring the safety and security of the people. He said their commitment stands as a source of immense pride for the entire nation.

Kavinder Gupta said that border villages are not only strategic guardians of the nation but also repositories of unique culture, resilience, and heritage.

He stressed that the UT Government has placed special emphasis on improving road connectivity, health services, education, communication, and livelihood opportunities in these far-flung habitations.

Highlighting the role of tourism, the Lt Governor said that villages like Thang hold immense potential to emerge as attractions for border tourism, drawing visitors to witness the life, culture, and natural beauty of India’s last villages.

He noted that the pristine River Shyok adds to the charm of border villages like Thang, offering immense scope for eco and adventure tourism. He underlined that the Government of India’s flagship initiatives, such as the Vibrant Villages Programme, are being implemented to strengthen border areas by creating better facilities, promoting sustainable tourism, and preventing outmigration.

Reiterating the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kavinder Gupta said, “Every border village is not the last village of the country but the first village of India. The Government is committed to transforming them into vibrant centres of opportunity, development, and pride.”

The Lt Governor assured that the welfare and development of border villages remain the foremost priority of the UT Administration, with sustained efforts to uplift these communities while preserving their cultural identity.

Kavinder Gupta lauded the world-class roads across Ladakh, extending all the way to its last border villages, meticulously maintained by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

He encouraged the people of the country to visit and experience these roads while enjoying the scenic beauty and unique culture of the border areas.
